چکیده

To justify the cost effectiveness of sex pheromones for the control of the stem borer Chilo sacchariphagus Bojer in sugarcane, the relationship between the per cent internodes bored and the various yield parameters, i.e. pol % cane, purity, fibre % cane, industrial recoverable sugar % cane (IRSC) and weight had to be determined. Analyses were made on cane samples, with varying degrees of infestation, in each of the four climatic regions of Mauritius. Simple regression analyses were carried out between each of the yield components and the per cent internodes bored. Multiple regressions for loss in relation to degree of stem borer infestation and climatic regions were obtained for the per cent mass, IRSC and sugar loss. The multiple correlation coefficients were 0,95, 0,94 and 0,96 respectively.

Biological Control of Chilo Sacchariphagus (lepidoptera: Crambidae) in Moçambique: the First Steps

In 1999, it was confirmed that Chilo sacchariphagus Bojer was attacking sugarcane at Açucareira de Moçambique, Mafambisse, and in 2001 from Companhia de Sena, Marromeu. In 2000, Açucareira de Moçambique requested that the South African Sugar Association Experiment Station investigate a classical biological control programme against this exotic borer using Xanthopimpla stemmator Thunberg. To thi...

Factors Influencing the Adoption of Biological Control of Rice stem borer (Chilo Suppressalis) in Talesh Region, Iran

Among the agricultural crops, rice has had the largest share in pesticide use. Most of the croplosses are caused by the attack of Chilo suppressalis. The purpose of this study was toexamine effective factors on adoption of biological control by farmers in Talesh region ofIran. A survey study was conducted using a stratified random sampling to collect data fromfarmers in the selected rural areas...

Sugarcane, Saccharum officinarum L., is one of the most economically important crop of Thailand. It is the main source of sucrose, and is used in sugar and alcohol production. Insect pest complex is the most important limiting factor in sugarcane production. Among the sugarcane insect pest complexes, the sugarcane moth borers complex is considered most important. Assessment of Yield Loss in Rice due to Yellow Stem Borer, Scirpophaga incertulas, Using Simulation Models

The yield loss simulation (YLS) and the MACROS LIQ.CSM models were used to simulate the effect of stem borer damage at a detillering rate of 5, 15, 30, 60% at vegetative, panicle initiation and grain filing stages, on yield of rice cultivar?s Ratna. This stem borer damage during vegetative and panicle initiation stages was not simulated appropriately by both the models. Relatively MACROS simul...

Trapping Chilo Sacchariphagus (lepidoptera: Crambidae) in Sugarcane Using Synthetic Pheromones

In June 2002, pheromone-trapping techniques were used successfully to detect the presence of Chilo sacchariphagus Bojer (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) in sugarcane at Mafambisse and Marromeu sugar estates in Mozambique. Trap design, bait concentration, trap placement and moth flight activity were examined. A simple trap constructed from a 2-litre plastic bottle and baited with two commercial syntheti...
